The Last Missionary...

[of Travis's immediate family]

My boys have flown away - to Utah, specifically. Travis's youngest brother Ryan has just finished his two-year LDS mission in Japan and came home today! A couple months ago Tim called me and said he had hatched a plan to get Travis to Utah for Ryan's homecoming, as a surprise. We worked it all out and I even conspired with his program director at school (since he'd be missing a day), but finally we had to spring the surprise on him early so Travis could help us with travel arrangements. He was pretty excited, and then he hatched his own surprise plan, to bring Troy with him to see the family and meet Ryan for the first time, since Troy is still under 2 and flies for free. The SURPRISEE becomes the SURPRISER!

Ryan had a great time serving in Sendai, Japan, doing regular missionary work for the first year up until the earthquake and tsunami hit Sendai on year ago (you may remember when he went missing from us for a few days! YIKES!). The second year, of course, included a great deal of recovery effort after the disaster. (Ryan was interviewed here.)
Anyway, I haven't heard much about how the day went, since apparently neither my husband nor his twin are really "cell phone people." But I DID see some great pictures on facebook, which is how I keep up with my family. Yes even immediate family.
And I stole this one from facebook, taken by Uncle Steve. Okay, I kind of stole all his pictures. Pretty sure he won't mind because I'm also pretty sure he doesn't read my blog. :)

Awww look, there's my baby, and his beloved puppy too! I miss him. Oh yeah, and there's Ryan and Travis!

But lest you think I am languishing away here at home, let me assure you that we are having an excellent GIRLS ONLY weekend! What is that phrase? When the cat's away, the mice will eat pizza? Pretty sure that's it. (I finally, after nearly 8 years of marriage, succeeded in making Travis "sick of pizza" - since we eat it weekly because I love it more than any other food. Well, he gets a week off, and we are most definitely at home making pizza!)

Anyway, WELCOME HOME, RYAN!!! I'm looking forward to hearing all the details of the homecoming!

This is so cool. What a fun memory for Travis to have with his family. If all the kids weren't sick we would have you guys over for some fun. :(

Welcome home, Ryan!!!! And thanks for putting those links on here. It was fun to see Charlotte's interview again with the picture of Katie, Ryan and Dave. And I don't know how I missed it, but I'd never seen the interview of Ryan. It was great! He said just the things a mother wants to hear from her son. Absolutely touching. Thank you.
