So a week or two ago I received a mysterious package from my
dear little sister. Now everyone loves getting packages, so I was already excited. But wait - there's more! It was marked, "Open on November 30th." The suspense! The intrigue! I do love a good intrigue. Suspense... I don't handle as well. I called her right away and tried to weasel out of her what it might be! But she wouldn't budge.
Well November 30th finally rolled around and I tore into my package. You will never believe what I found. Check out this little number:

My jaw dropped and I informed Travis that something like this would take me a minimum of 4 years. And I was not exaggerating. She cross-stitched this by hand (well I guess that's the only way to cross-stitch). No really, look at the detail!
But wait - there's more! (This is where Travis & I would insert our running joke, "Call now and we'll DOUBLE your offer!" We watch way too many infomercials.) Each date has a tiny little pearl from which to hang a little Christmas-related scene, ALSO cross-stitched by her (yep, 25). When I gushed about it to her later she informed me that she has been working on the project since April, and that for each of the 25 pieces, it took half an hour just to do the OUTLINING on each one. Whoa. Here are just a few.

much cooler than a pair of slippers for Christmas... Eh heh...
I am so looking forward to handing it down as a vintage Christmas heirloom (which it will be when it is old) along with the story of how Great-great-great-aunt Erika painstakingly handmade it with hours of work. I've already coordinated it with my advent Christmas tree which my sis-in-law
Katie bought me during our trip to California, for no reason other than she likes to spoil me (that and she saw me secretly coveting it since I'd been looking for a little advent calendar with doors.)
So, in the tree goes chocolate (yeah we'll see how long that lasts) and a scripture which coordinates with one of the cross-stitch pictures to hang up. Perfect!

That is seriously amazing! If I spent so much time on something, I don't think I would be shipping it off. That looks ridiculously hard to make.
Carter would empty every door after December 1 when he learned there was candy in it.
I made one for my family last year and love it so much I decided to share the joy. Krista says I talked a lot about how much time I spent on it, and I did, but I didn't mean to make it sound like it was an inconvenience or anything. I really enjoy doing stuff like that.
Also, what happened to the first bead?! It looks like it's falling off! I'm so annoyed. I thought I had those on well enough. Well, feel free to peel the felt back and reattach it if you can, or feel up to it, or whatever.
Holy Sheep!!! and she made three of those sheep. wow can we trade sisters for a few months just until she finishes one of those for me??? that was a super awesome gift. I think you are in debt to her for life!
