Gone Fishing

Hi, my name is Travis and I am a fishaholic. "Hi, Travis." I am not a blogger like Krista but I do want you all to hear the fishing story. So this is my attempt. It was a beautiful July morning. Birds were singing, bees were buzzing, green drakes were hatching, and fish were eating them (the green drakes that is).

It being the last day of my seven-day non-resident license ($32.00 value) and Kate's birthday I thought why not make the most of my license and hit the river one last time (in actuality I thought I had one more day on my license but I realized two days later that it expired on Kate's birthday...but it makes for a better excuse than just plain wanting to go!) I asked Krista if she would mind if I went for 1 hour **ahem** or so. She said it shouldn't be a problem since it was 11:00 when I asked her and that would easily put me home by 12:30 and give us plenty of time to get to Spanish Fork and get ready for Kate's big bash. So with her permission and her Father's company we headed for the river. Instead of going to our usual location we went further up the river, a place I had never been. After gearing up we headed toward the river. There were several people fishing. After talking to a man who was taking break puffing away at his cigar we decided to head up stream a little way. I spotted an ideal spot that was somewhat deep and perhaps a little too swift. Arvid decided to go further upstream. I started with a underneath with a prince nymph since my brother-in-law Ryan had some success with it the previous day. It wasn't too long before I had a hit! I carefully brought it in to the shore. It was a nice German Brown trout about 13 inches long. I continued to use the prince nymph with no success so I switched to a dry fly, the Green Drake.

This hatch had been going on all week and this day was no exception. They were everywhere. I casted into a slow moving current and saw a fish chase my fly....Oh man! COOL! I had to get him. I continued to cast to that area and BAM! I got him. He was big. He took a while to bring in because I had to coax him to shallow water. By the time I got him and myself over to the bank about a half hour had passed. As you can imagine it was a very proud moment. I measured him to be between 15 and 16 inches. This marks the biggest stream fish I have ever caught. At this point I knew my time was expired but I wasn't sure where my father-in-law was so I decided to wait for him to come find me otherwise I would risk missing him all together. So I kept fishing. I caught one more and since I hadn't seen Arvid I decided to go the bank and walk out to the truck to see if I could see him (oh yeah I left my cell phone at home. Big mistake.) He wasn't anywhere to be seen so I went back to the river and as I walked back I ran into him. Too make a already long story short. It was 3:00 when I got home and Krista expected me back at 1:00. I knew I was in trouble but there was nothing I could do except face the consequences. You can all imagine for yourselves the rest of the story. Fortunately the party worked out great. We had a good time and we planned for way more people than actually came. Sorry Krista! I love you more than fishing I promise!

have you heard the Brad Paisley song "I'm gonna miss her"? It's about fishing. You might like it. Fortunately for you, you already said you love my sister more than fishing, so this shouldn't be a problem for you. :)

Just kidding - I love you. Definitely more than I love fishing. You also painted that to be a little milder than the actual story. You actually left before 10 and were supposed to be back no later than noon. And it messed up Kate's nap. That is why I was so mad.

Krista!!

Email me! Bethanyelen at gmail dot com. I'd love to meet your friend. There are now 6 stakes in San Antonio, so I doubt she is in my ward, but that would be great if she lived close! Do they have a blog?

Will it help if I take responsibility for setting a poor example growing up? It is all my fault!
