Where we've been....

(They're racing!)

For the past three days we've spent every morning at the pool! I love this plan because it makes the girls take crazy long naps afterward! Like right now... it's after 3:00 and I'm BLOGGING because THEY'RE STILL SLEEPING! I love the pool.

Sorry about the glow-in-the-dark towel. My photography skills are not competitive enough for me to take viewable pool-side pictures.
These two are a riot. They are like an old married couple. No really. They follow each other around, nagging a little. But they are always together.

When Kate was little (okay, so... still today) she was never really thrilled with the idea of "swimming" - at least not independently. She likes to be in the pool while clinging to me parasitically for dear life. I was a little disappointed thinking all my children would be afraid of water and it would be a beastly task to teach them to swim.

Not this one!
Well you know Brooklyn. No fear. She even lets me hold her (at arm's length!) and tries to kick and swim, and drink the water, once she figured out what it is. However, she still wasn't quite as enthusiastic about the swimming idea as her little friend Bella was! Brooklyn prefers to run around on the pool deck.
(PS My favorite is when the lifeguards whistle at them. "No running!" Really? You're going to stop my one-year-old from running with that whistle! GENIUS! Why didn't I think of that?)
Here she is proudly showing off her battle wounds. In my experience, they might as well pave pool decks with razor blades. I spent over 6 years on a pool deck, so I have definitely been here before. I feel for ya, Sweetheart!

Now, speaking of knowing Brooklyn, you can probably imagine the scene when this happened yesterday: Travis points out that Brooklyn's knees are bleeding. She doesn't even notice, let alone cry. I take her to the drinking fountain to rinse her knees, then we put on some Neosporin and Hello Kitty band-aids at home. End of episode.

Now close your eyes (okay don't, 'cause I need you to keep reading) and imagine the same scene but if it had been our older child. And that, my friend, is how I spent my day today. Yes it involved blood-curdling screams, a lifeguard running for an assortment of bandages, vials of sting/bite ointment (?), gauze pads, etc., me breaking my back to carry Kate home, followed by Shauna breaking HER back holding TWO children, and Logan packing all our stuff! And THAT was just the exit from the pool. The rest of the afternoon consisted of Kate huddled in a towel on the bathroom floor, in some kind of shock, shaking with sobs, sitting with her eyes closed. Even when she did speak she didn't open her eyes. Finally I asked her to open her eyes and she said, "I can't. I don't want to see my owie." This child was thoroughly traumatized. By the time I got her dressed (and trust me, it was like dressing a store mannequin. She was completely incapacitated), once her pants were covering her knees (which she would NOT allow me to bandage), she was totally fine. Except she still can't quite walk. Yes I gave birth to a drama queen. Okay in her defense, they were pretty bad scrapes. And you remember scraping your knees. I still have scars. OWWWWWW....

Okay and here's a little side-topic about what ELSE I've been doing...

KRISTA'S NEW TOY!
(Brooklyn helped me put it together.)

So I have been (1) swimming, and (2) overzealously scrubbing my carpets to my heart's content and to the exclusion of every other item on my lengthy to-do list. And that is all.

And PS this machine is AMAZING.

PPS - Don't worry, I didn't forget about Father's Day. Keep going.

We've been spending tons of time at the pool, too. I love those long naps! I hope Kate's owies get better!

Does Kate pass out when she sees big needles, too? This is all coming together for me. I'm sorry to tell you this Krista, you gave birth to a Lundell. **holding you while you sob**

I absolutely love reading your posts, because even though I was there it's still fun to read all about it. One of my favorite parts of today was us hauling everything back to your place while there were 5+ guys sitting taking a break just watching us in our precarious situation. You would think that one of them would volunteer to offer a hand. What is with the two of us finding the most unchivalrous men in the whole state?

I hope Kate's little knees are feeling better.

YAY for the pool! I LOVE it and I spent my entire childhood summers there. Tyler is the owie drama king too, so I understand the fun experience with Kate scraping her knees. OH and I think the pic of Kate and Logan is funnier because of how you described their relationship.
