Valentine's Day

Last night Travis and I went out.
You're probably expecting juicy details about our amazing romantic date, but I'll be the first to tell you that our version of romantic date is a little more unconventional. We went out and bought clothes for ourselves. It was seriously the perfect date! No ice cream, even. Ice cream was in the plan, but it was a really really cold night. We went home and warmed up instead. And then ate ice cream.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, our cute kids and their adorable babysitter had this wild idea to make a Valentine surprise for us. They spent the entire evening on it, and when we got home, they insisted we stay away from the pantry, where they'd hidden our surprise.

In the morning, they excitedly showed us what they'd cooked up. They had baked cookies and decorated them. The only kind of cookie Kate has baked (and had a recipe for) was chocolate chip. Then they mixed up some frosting (I think from a recipe they made up) and frosted those chocolate chip cookies!
It was adorable. And those cookies actually tasted amazing! They're covered in pink and brown frosting, the latter of which the kids kept saying was "CHOCOLATE," with big dramatic "air-quotes." I didn't get it until later Kate explained how they tried to mix "raspberry" colored frosting based on the instructions on the food coloring box. It didn't work, so they added more, and, long story short, brown frosting. Not actually chocolate.

Tonight we celebrated with our traditional fondue.
Main course: Meats & Veg

Dessert course: well CHOCOLATE, of course!

And this little guy felt left out after his brother got to wear a mustache.

{Brooklyn had to try it on too.}
