My day, in bullet points

(This picture was not taken today; however, I felt a picture was called for. I found these two the other day just sitting up here reading books. So quaint.)
  • I spent two hours with Brooklyn's sunbeam class in church (since it is LARGE and they can usually use a little extra help) and finally learned the names of all her friends. Three-year-olds have got to be the cutest things on the face of the planet. (Scroll down for proof)
  • I threw a huge, embarrassing, hormonally-induced tantrum today when I didn't get the one thing I wanted this weekend, which was a Sunday nap. (I just can't figure out where my kids get their deeply-rooted propensity for throwing tantrums...)
  • I yelled at everyone who got in the way of said nap, including Kate, when she slipped in my room to bring me a book that she made for me.
  • Of course I felt bad and apologized later, and then we sat down together and read her book, which was entitled "Mom has movie night with Kate." It went something like this: Mom planned a movie night for Kate. (speech bubble coming out of Kate's mouth saying "YAY!") All right, let's have movie night. So they did. The end. And it read back-to-front. Because that's how she rolls. Kate does not buy into the commercially dictated standards of modern bookbinding.
  • At dinner, Brooklyn informed me that she loves "squished potatoes."
  • Those girls can eat ice cream 80x faster than they can eat dinner. This led me to ponder why on earth "healthy" food doesn't taste as good as sugary food, and why the heck isn't sugary food healthy for us? It would save everyone lots of trouble. Especially parents. Anyone?
  • Troy requires a story before bed. I have also discovered that the story MUST rhyme. Tonight I tried to read him a non-rhyming story, and he quickly realized it and started to protest, so I tried to move my voice in a kind of chanting rhythm so that maybe he would think it rhymed. This worked for about two more pages, and then when I was in mid-sentence he tried to force the book closed and said cheerfully, "The End!"
  • Travis & I polished off the remaining ice cream while sitting out on the deck under the stars. We saw two shooting stars (okay actually I only saw one of them. The little one.) and lay out there wrapped in blankets watching for more and philosophizing about the deeper points of the universe until we got too chilly and the ice cream was gone.

That's one of Cami's favorite songs too. Brooklyn has the tune a bit better than Cami does. So cute!
