Julius Caesar's soothsayer was not kidding. But today the misfortune befell Travis. He woke me up at 5:30 when he left for school. It must have been around an hour later (I know because I had time to fall asleep and have a new dream) when he walked in again. He drove all the way to school and then remembered that he had volunteered to shuttle a bunch of people to Walter Reed today and needed the bigger car. So he drove back home again. He traded cars and left. Another 20 minutes or so and he was back again! Maverick had a flat tire. Go figure. He tried changing it but it was hopelessly stuck. Did I mention it was pouring rain? It was. Poor Trav finally gave up and arranged for other rides for his shuttle crew. I called roadside assistance. (Seriously, I think we call weekly now.) They said they'd have someone here in an hour. Travis went back to school in his Neon. Exactly THREE hours later, a towing employee showed up and changed the tire. (Apparently he has experience with tires that are stuck.) I finally took a shower around 11:00 a.m.
I told Travis at least his Ides of March wasn't as bad as Julius Caesar's - you know, with his best friend stabbing him in the back and all. Travis said glumly, "Well, the day's not over."

That's awful! What a story. I am glad there is something to explain why I am having a bad day. The checker at the grocery store charged me for 39 avacados instead of 3. Glad I just noticed. And just after I emptied the shopping cart into the trunk Maddie pulled it--and Ella--over on top of herself. Two heads hit the pavement. Thankfully they are okay, but we could use some leprechaun luck! If I get any I'll send it your way too. :)
ewww, i had totally forgotten about today until i read your post! good thing i am about to go to bed, there's not much time left for anything to happen!!! oh, did i just jinx myself? we DO seem to have a stomach bug inching its way through our house...
thanks alot--i will be calling YOU if ethan wakes up throwing up before midnight!!!
ohhhhh. "se levanto con la pata equivocada"...he'll understand.
Tommy's birthday is on the Ides of March so we kinda like it, but that sounds like horrible luck for you guys. Sorry!
This was a masterfully crafted piece - one of my favorites! It starts with Julius Caesar, and a bit of history, and moves to Travis's misfortunes. Then it not only ends by going back to the original "Julius" beginning, but has a funny line - which happens to be almost the same conversation that Julius had with his soothsayer! I loved it. Thanks for making me happy, Krista. :)
