It was bound to happen...

Here is what I found in the garbage can in the office. (A stray tuft on the floor tipped me off.)

Apparently the Inevitable Three-year-old Self-Haircutting Incident occurred last night, but neither Travis nor I noticed until I discovered the discarded hair this morning.

This is because instead of scalping herself across the forehead, she just trimmed the front hair that was "getting in her face," so essentially she has bangs like the remnants of mine. When I made her show Travis, he said, "Actually it looks kind of good!" to which I responded with a death glare - please don't encourage her.
That chin-length chunk of hair in the front is the result of her handiwork.

Meanwhile, apparently it is the end of the world. At least that is what the weather reporters and the majority of the DC Metro area population seem to believe. I personally think it is a conspiracy encouraged by grocery store chains to force everyone to make crazed runs to the store to clean out the shelves. We were at first amused by this phenomenon, but now it's getting downright annoying. We went shopping YESTERDAY morning around 10 a.m. (20 inches of snow expected tonight) and waited in line FOR-EV-AH behind desperate people with carts loaded with supplies. The woman in front of me joked about how much of this must surely be impulse-buying. Like, she somehow felt inclined to stock up on all kinds of carbs. (I myself had my fair share of Lucky Charms in the cart.) By 8 a.m. this morning the entire county was clean out of milk. (I know because I went out in search of an extra gallon or so - we have enough milk but I guess the hysteria is a little contagious.)

So, what to do when you're hunkered down for the weekend to weather an inevitably abominable snowstorm and possible milk-cow extinction?

Eat homemade cinnamon rolls!
Yum yum!

And then, we had Shauna, Logan, and Bella over to make chocolate-mint-chocolate-chip cookies (somehow that sounded like a lot of chocolate in there. Well it was.) Nothing like a little sugar to sweeten a snowstorm.

Travis came home and said it feels like Christmas!

Oh and those chocolate ~ chocolate cookies were divine. I just hope there are some left for when Jeff gets home. :) We will have to plan a sledding party once it stops snowing. I can see Brooklyn and Logan loving it, maybe not so much for Kate and Bella. See you guys tomorrow.

Maybe someday Kate will be a stylist. If she already is giving herself good haircuts, it might not be far off. But I would have been giving travis the death glare as well. ..

Good job Kate! Now it's time for another hair cut by professionals. :)

Also, those rolls look amazing! I may have to make some myself. Enjoy the snow!

I'm sorry- I laughed a little too hard at this post! I guess if the hair's in her face she better cut it! :) Wise thinking kate! :) It does look cute in the picture though (sorry- I have to agree with Travis:)!

As for our "state of emergency"- I found it quite humorous that there were only 2 gallons of milk left in the Giant refrigerated section this afternoon! I was AMAZED at all the empty shelves

Oh, and if you guys end up going sledding tomorrow- CALL US!!!!

It could have been worse. My L cut her hair RIGHT down to the scalp, RIGHT in the front, RIGHT before her first school picture. I sat there with the packet trying to decide if I wanted to pay a fortune for the pictures (of course I did), and trying to decide whether to laugh or cry. I did a little of both.
