First, I haven't even mentioned our trip to the zoo last week! It was literally the Perfect Day. Not too hot, not too cold, the zoo was empty, my girls were good as gold, and it was a perfectly relaxing day. I thought I'd never, ever have a day like this. We packed up our stroller, food, and even a sling for Brooklyn (I knew she'd want to be carried - and why not? It was our day off at the ZOO!) and rode the Metro to the zoo. We met Wendi and Carter there and headed straight for the orangutans, which were supposedly expected to cross the "O-Line" (a bunch of overhead lines connecting different stations they are allowed to visit) at 11:00. We arrived precisely at 11:00, and the orangutans were just sitting there! Funny it never occurred to us that they might not WANT to do any stunts for us at that exact moment. We asked a nearby zookeeper if maybe he could bribe them. He told us we'd just missed it and they were already back! We were disappointed, but not for long...
Carter wanted to fit in, so he wore his monkey outfit.Brooklyn & I practice our monkey facesAfter a little stroll around the zoo, we stopped on the lawn for lunch. This is where the most amazing part of the day happened. Many of you may have had the privilege of dining with my lovely children in the past and may have observed their exquisite table manners (and possibly lost your own appetites in the process). In short, mealtimes pretty much require a garden hose for clean-up. Well, as I handed out pb/j sandwiches, apple slices, juice boxes, Kix, etc., they ate every bite and didn't spill a crumb! I was appalled! They didn't even need so much as a baby wipe to clean up! BOTH OF THEM! At home when they eat sandwiches, they open them up and eat the middle right off the bread, using their hands, and then maybe gnaw through some of the bread as an afterthought. It's disgusting. But here we were, OUT, with their mother totally vulnerable, and they decided to have a decent meal! I still can't explain that phenomenon. At least now I know they are capable of eating like human beings.
Another favorite were the elephants...
And we *finally* saw the PANDAS! (Usually they seem to be hiding. How you hide a panda I do not know.) See it? It's the black-and-white thing.
Then we found one that let us take our picture with it. (My girls are such hams.)

And that's about it for the zoo. We arrived home around 3:30, and I had taken it for granted that I'd sacrificed the girls' naps. HOWEVER, they surprised me furthermore by taking late naps as soon as we got home! I guess we were all pretty tired out. It was a wonderful day.
6 sweet nothings:
Congrats on your perfect day at the zoo! Our last trip to the zoo was...not so perfect. Very long story short, Clint had meetings, so he dropped me off with FOUR boys on the zoo's busiest day of the year. (Incredibly difficult to keep track of four busy boys and only one stroller...) Little did we realize Clint left with the diaper bag, lunch, and sunscreen. My two oldest had to go to the bathroom, but they are too old to go in the girl's and I have issues with them going into public men's restrooms alone. Thankfully we ran into my cousin who is also a great friend, and he took them to the bathroom. We spent the rest of the zoo trip with him, his wife and their son. That made it easier to keep track of my dudes. We had two wet accidents with the younger boys (because the bathrooms were so far away) and no diaper bag. Oh well. It was a hot day. They dried quickly. Since Clint had our lunch, I ended up buying lunch at the zoo AND IT COST $54.00! I had to buy a diaper and wipes from the Guest Services counter. $5.00 for just ONE diaper and two of those moist towellettes you get with buffalo wings. Needless to say, I was glad when Clint's meeting was over. The zoo was a much more enjoyable experience when he was with us. So much for my long story short. Do I get some sort of award for the longest comment EVER?! Well, congrats again on a pleasant day at the zoo!
Yeah! How much fun! Those "perfect days" are so needed! Your girls are so cute! They really are hams. I just love Brooklyn's face in the last picture. So cute! And I really like your haircut. (I might be really late in saying that, sorry!)
Wow. that is a perfect day! I love days when its SO nice outside. We are getting like 1 or 2 of those a month. I so miss it there. I love this time of year!!!
That sounds like so much fun! It would have been more perfect if your girls had their grandmother with them (preferably maternal one!). Awww. AND - they probably ate so well as outings tend to make you really hungry. The food meant business instead of playtime. (???) It's great that Wendi and Carter were with you. (Hi Wendolyn!)
I LOVE days like this!!! Perfect weather, angel like children, and a fun place! I really ought to make one last trip to the zoo before it drops to freezing temps!! Today really would have been a perfect day! We gotta meet up and go walking one of these days. I took the girls out today and was thinking I should give you a call- but I'm a loser and I didn't! Sorry!
OK- now I have a question. I need to know what month you posted Kate's sleep rules. I went to your quote board to find that link and it was gone!! I love your quote board btw. It always give me a good laugh. Anyway, I've been doing the sleep rules with Madi since the end of Sept. and they've worked like a charm! THANK YOU! Anyway, I need to give you some of the credit when I type up my post. SO- I need to find that post to include the link for my post! Sorry, that sounds really confusing, but you know what I'm talking about -right?!?
