Separation Report

Currently our family is divided in two. This is because Travis went to Utah for his sister Katie's wedding, and Brooklyn went with him because she can fly for free. Kate and I stayed home to save money on more airline tickets (and because, you remember, there is an official travel ban on the family. I guess Travis is exempt.) Here is the story so far.

Yesterday Travis and Brooklyn were scheduled to fly out of BWI at 5:25. We packed up and put the girls down for naps, and at 2:00 Travis announced it was time to go to the airport. I, as usual guarding my children's naptime with my life, informed him that we didn't have to leave for another hour. I'm thinking, one hour to the airport puts us there at 4:00, leaving him plenty of time to print a boarding pass at the kiosk (he'd checked in online and wasn't checking luggage) and go through security. Right? Well, we left a little after 3:00, after an upsetting call from my sister (but don't worry; everything turned out okay), and headed for the beltway. This threw me for a loop because I thought we would take the "back way" to BWI like usual. Turns out we chose the wrong route, because an accident left I-95 blocked and it took us no less than two hours to get to the airport. Needless to say, Travis and Brooklyn weren't on that 5:25 plane. They were rerouted through Atlanta, where they were delayed for over an hour due to a storm. Brooklyn threw a tantrum the likes of which Travis has never seen, hitting him and crying so hard she threw up. But finally they arrived safely at his parents' house by 2 a.m. (as opposed to the originally scheduled 8:00). OOPS! Definite planning error there.

Anyway, I have never been away from my girls overnight (except the two nights I was in the hospital with Brooklyn while Kate stayed home) so it has been a little lonely (although peacefully quiet!) here at home. Kate and I are having fun, but she misses her sister desperately. She talks about nothing else and keeps wanting to talk to her on the phone. Tonight my best friend Wendi came over to hang out with Kate so I could go to my FIVE piano lessons. (Unfortunately, I only ended up teaching ONE! Everyone else was MIA.) Thanks so much, Wend! Kate loved hanging out with her and her cute little Carter.

So it's kind of a boring update, and no pictures. Travis took the camera with him, so maybe later. Apparently the wedding was fabulous! Everything else... I will catch up later!

Oh how sad. I haven't left my children either...except for the hospital when I was having Lily. That's tough. I think I have separation anxiety. Good luck! Tell Wendi "hello."

First off I'm actually kind of laughing to myself thinking of Travis having to deal with one of the girl's melt down. I think this is one of my secret wishes for Jeff. Maybe when Travis comes home he will have a renewed love of motherhood, and all you go through all day everyday.

Second how long is Travis going to be gone for? We come back on Tuesday, and we would love some Krista and Kate time.

We hope you have fun with your one on one time!

I love having one on one time with my kids, and I love even more letting Dale have it... ;) There's nothing like alone time on an airplane! LOL

okay so i think its a bummer that only 1 of your 5 piano students showed up - what kind of crap is that?! at least it wasn't like you were missing out on family time with everyone while you were waiting for them.

travis better have some good pics to show for his wedding travel time during the lundell travel ban ;-)
