We kicked off the day bright and early with our ward breakfast, including a flag-raising ceremony. Travis went extra early to set up, so it was a super long day for him! Oh look - we DO have pictures! And then also I just snagged some of Kate off of Shauna's blog. (Thanks Shauna! Sorry I'm plagiarizing again!) I'm especially grateful she took these because this is pretty much the only account we have of Kate being well-groomed at any point yesterday. (She was. Once.)For lunch we had a barbecue with our friends the Burnetts and the Brewers. Again I was the attentive photographer-mother I usually am and wound up with a million awesome pictures of my kids. Okay not so much, but Shauna did! So check her blog if you want to see real pictures.
(She's not really sad. She's posing like this on purpose.)The evening presented a dilemma. I really wanted to go to fireworks (it's the 4th of July!!!) but we were nervous about keeping the girls out late. However, we decided to give it a shot. This was the first year since we've moved here that we haven't gone to see the fireworks at the Mall. They're excellent, but I have to say I did enjoy staying close to home this year and NOT braving the crowds and the Metro late at night with tired kids. PS... this year it DIDN'T RAIN!
We decided to hit up our local fairgrounds, and it was awesome! It wasn't crowded, and they had live music playing (classic rock - perfect for the 4th!), and the fireworks show was great! However, the REAL show happened before the fireworks. Kate & Brooklyn danced like there was no tomorrow. That was the best to watch. Also we had plenty of caramel popcorn... my favorite 4th of July treat! Here's one of the videos we took.
What do you think... our next family photo?...
Once the fireworks started, however, it was a slightly different story. Apparently Kate is terrified of fireworks. (Still.) She refused to even look at them and instead cowered against Travis's shoulder for the first 20 minutes. At the end we finally persuaded her that the fireworks weren't going to "get" us, and she watched the rest. Cautiously. Brooklyn of course loved the whole thing. Until her attention span gave out, that is.She's not sleeping; she's terrified.
We didn't get home until 10:30!!! Brooklyn was unconscious, but Kate doggedly stayed up the whole time. Which made for a pretty thrilling day today, I'm sure you can imagine. My apologies to any ward members who may be reading. Happy day-after-the-4th-of-July everyone!!!
4 sweet nothings:
Love the new family pics! Haha! I also love the silly faces from the girls. Looks like a fun, tiring day.
Looks like fun! We went to the fireworks at Scofield and got home after midnight. I'm sure we owe our ward an apology, too! Oh well. At least they had fun!
Krista- I've totally been thinking about you all day today! I'm assuming you guys are already there?? I SO hope your flight was painless! You are one BRAVE mom!! Post soon so we can know that you made it safe and sound- or I'll just ask Travis how your flight went! :)
Anyway, glad to hear that you guys had a fabulous 4th! We were bummed that we couldn't have joined your BBQ, but Spencer had already invited his mission comp. over. And Madi's nap time didn't help the situation any. I do have to say that that snow cone machine is AWESOME!! It's SO easy to work. We've enjoyed snow cones a couple of times already! Haven't tried it with sweetened condensed milk yet though!! Sounds interesting!! We'll have to give it a try!
Have a fabulous time in Utah!!!
There are WAY too many funny pictures on this post. Brooklyn looks so confused as to why you guys decided to take a picture while she was mid-snack. I'm sure she's thinking "Can't you crazy people wait a minute?" haha. I guess the snack could be what you used to make her hold still. Kate's hair rocks.
Fireworks are so much more entertaining with kids, isn't it?
CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU GUYS!!!!!!
