So by around 2 p.m. when I had reached that threshold... that edge of the really really high cliff you have been trying so hard not to fall off but then after all that effort wonder if jumping wouldn't be such a bad idea after all... I found myself at a crossroad. You know the one. What to do? In this position, what's a well-prepared, calm, patient, educated, mature, wise mother to do?
Well, you read my blog. You know what I would do. Standing on that threshold of sanity, picturing the rest of my life in a straitjacket and wondering how bad it would REALLY be, did I:
a) Give Kate a spankingHm, do you know? Tough one, isn't it? Or maybe it isn't... Those of you who *really* know me will know that of course the answer is...
b) Lock myself in the closet and cry for half an hour
c) Load my kids in the car and take them out for ice cream

D) ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!
When we lived in India, my sister and I loved the little ice cream cones at McDonald's (not a lot to choose from in India. But there is always McDonald's.) They cost 9 Rupees (about 20 cents) and we ate them all the time. I figured this was something I ought to share with my daughters. Especially today. Here in Maryland McDonald's ice cream is a lot more expensive (like... more than 5 times as much!) and in this case, the sundaes were cheaper than cones (?), so we added a little hot fudge and caramel to our day. Totally worth it.
And if you're wondering why I'm rewarding bad behavior with ice cream, well I'm not. We all just had a really hard day.
Also Brooklyn was barefoot in McDonald's.
I should totally write parenting books.
11 sweet nothings:
is that the cure for days like this? Im seriously DOING THAT WILL LEXI!!! Holyl crap! I HAD one of those days except it was MOSTLY because were SICK, YES SICK AGAIN! And YES you did play with us YESTERDAY! Im so sorry!!! it all just started THIS MORNING! I pretty much lost my mind but I think some ice cream would have done some good! McDonalds is 24hrs RIGHT??
Well, all I can say is I"VE BEEN THERE! Good for you getting out of the house. Sometimes that's what I need, and it's the hardest thing to make myself do for some reason. Screaming and locking yourself in a closet is so much easier. LOL
My kids are barefoot all the time. And when the summer comes, it's a fight to put on shoes for church!
Sorry you've had one of those days. Your ice cream sounds awesome though!
Sometimes I have dreams where I'm out jogging in the canyon or riding my bike and suddenly I'm almost falling off a cliff despite all efforts not to. I then have the thought to stop resisting and just jump cuz 'your probably having a dream, Charlotte.' And I do. I should probably stop that for the day when it isn't really a dream.
Ice cream cures most anything. Good for you for finally giving in...Next time don't wait so long!!
Well, we're looking forward to seeing you guys in April (it's april, right?) then Brooklyn and Mason can crawl off and play and Hunter and Kate will run around together screaming and throwing toys everywhere...but you won't have to worry about a thing b/c there's nothing they can do to destroy things here more than they are so we'll be able to have good ole' long talks and only worry if we hear a loud crash, and blood curdling screams. :) I love McD's sundaes.
barefoot at McDonalds ... that takes the cake ... or puts the cream on the ice?
no biggie really if she never touched the floor with her feet!
I must confess that we hit McDonalds at least every other week while living in Md.
you have to find what gives you a bit of sanity, if only for a moment ... glad you found something!
I would totally buy your parenting books!
You should definitly write parenting books. People would buy them because you are so real! And hilarious! We all have days like that. Often. It's good to know we're in good company.
Yes Krista write a book!! I need all the help i can get and after all if the book is coming from a well-prepared, calm, patient, educated, mature, wise mother that also did her time teaching grade school it would sale!!
McDonald's ice cream and going around barefoot. I know you never lived in S. Africa with us, but NOBODY wore shoes into stores over there. It's like mixing a little bit of both places. Ah, the good old days of 9 rupee ice cream cones. We'll have to do that again sometime. (Not in India necessarily, but me and you - without any kids!)
