So I figured out that the trick to getting Kate to do whatever I want is to tell her that she's ridiculously cute. And spend a good 15 minutes telling her. Thus we end up with these CUTE "piggy-tails" that she LOVES - she now hunts for rubber bands and makes me put pigtails in her hair every day. Never mind that it hurts a little for a minute. She'll spend the rest of the day looking at herself in any reflective surface and smiling proudly.
(She kept trying to sit on my lap to see the pictures after I took them, so I turned it around so I could still actually take some pictures!)
And we finally broke out Kate's old play mat for Brooklyn, who LOOOOVED it. She sat there staring at the toys for probably half an hour. While Kate assumed the role of educational programming and pointed out and named all the toys to her one by one: "fishy," "fluffly"... (butterfly), etc. Looking at all that stuff though I think I'd be overstimulated.
