So I am going to relate the birthing story from the beginning. I'll do my best to keep you entertained. We were originally scheduled for 6 am at Montgomery General Hospital but the nurse called the day before and pushed us back to 8 am. "Don't be late!" she warned. Well we thought we left with plenty of time but after dropping Kate off with the Gertsches and missing a couple turns we arrived 15 minutes late. We blame it on the schedulers though since we wanted to deliver at Shady Grove, only a block away.
Once we arrived it was time to get Krista ready for delivery starting with the I.V. She was a little scared to get an I.V. so being the brave husband that I am I stood at her bed side and held her hand. About a minute later I found myself on one knee with my head down toward the ground. The nurse quickly hit the emergency button and summoned a few other concerned nurses. They encouraged me to sit up in one of the large chairs in the room and drink a cup of OJ. I wanted to stay where I was but did as they ordered. Shortly after sitting up on the chair I felt the blood drain from my head as the room began to spin. I told everyone I was going to pass out, laid my head back, and slipped into an unknown world. The next thing I remember was a strong whiff of ammonium inhalant as a jolted awake from unconsciousness. I was the talk of the 3rd floor. Everyone had to make their little joke about it. Even the anesthetist came in and before saying anything else said, "I understand you like needles and you want to try putting the epideral in." Wauka, Wauka, Wauka, everyone's a comedian. Well at least I added to the excitement.
After they took care of me they gave Krista a low low infusion of pitocin because she was already 5 cm when we came in. Then it was just a waiting game. Krista probably would have gone earlier but Dr. Behram had a C-section to do so they turned the pitocin off while he was in the O.R.
Just a couple hours later they told Krista that Dr. Behram was done and he would be in shortly to deliver the baby. She asked me to grab her make-up bag so she could touch up a little. I said "Krista, you're kidding, you're about to have a baby!" She said, "I know but I don't want to look bad for the pictures because everyone is going to look at them and last time I looked disgusting" She began to primp up with some blush or base or whatever that face powder is. The doctor came in and saw her putting on her make up and said, "Oh you've got to take a picture of this" That is when my mom and I whipped out our cameras. Then she put on lip stick, mascara (I think) and even used the eye lash curler. I thought that was a bit much but whatever, she is the one doing all the work, she can do what she wants.
Brooklyn Kelly Lundell was born on April 10th at 4:18 pm. All it took was three big pushes and Brooklyn came right out. We were both surprised how easy it was compared to last time. Krista didn't even need stitches so her recovery has been relatively easy.
She weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces and was 19.5 inches long. She came out so fast that she swallowed a lot of fluid and had some bruising on her face. We are a couple of proud parents and were very excited to share the news with everyone.
I will post the video of Kate interacting with Brooklyn she did very well and loves having a baby sister.
